LECHON! PIZZA!

Finally, Pizza Huts answer to Greenwich's Top That! Pizza this Christmas Season. Behold the Pizza Hut LECHON PIZZA!

A Large Lechon Pizza with Stuffed Crust

The Lechon Pizza is basically Lechon on a Pizza. Instead of Tomato Sauce, there's sarsa under the cheese. Each Pizza comes with some extra sarsa for you to spread around (if it's not "Lechon" enough for ya). Its just like eating Lechon! with the cheesyness of a Pizza Hut Pizza! We had ours with classic Stuffed crust, now isn't that a recipe for heart attack?! It's amazing that BFAD allowed Pizza Hut to create such a thing!

Lechon + Stuffed Crust = Death

Other than the cholesterol overload... The pig skin is super crispy! its a nice contrast to the cheesy pizza underneath.
CRIZPY
Its priced like a premium Pizza Hut Pizza, which is quite alright really, this thing is a heart stopper!

Its good to see that Pizzas continually evolve like this. Thin Crust, Stuffed Crust, different toppings, sauces... and now this! I hope this Lechon Pizza becomes a mainstay on the Pizza Hut Menu when Christmas Season ends. I doubt I can eat another one within the next few months... gotta get my cholesterol levels down! (Lets see if Pizza Hut can come up with their own version of a Sisig pizza! haven't tasted a good one yet!)

Do yourself a favor, treat yourself to some Lechon pizza, bring it to the next pot luck or have it for Noche Buena, stuff like this may not be around any longer!

Epiphany: Global Cuisine Redefined

Wanna try something new this weekend? Have you tired everything on your favorite restaurant's menu already? Heres a fancy cozy restaurant I'm sure you haven't tried: Epiphany: Global Cuisine Redefined.

It's a nice cozy place hidden away in N. Domingo (ill put up the map later). Epiphany is a new place that offes food from all sorts of cuisines, food here is anything BUT boring! First thing's first... the place... Its not that big, but its really cozy, making every dining experience here an intimate one. Take a look at our shots and see for yourself.

Epiphany has that nice "Wooden Cabin" or "Inside of a boat" look

Fancy lights

No ceiling to make the place look bigger

sexy glasses of Iced tea

It's got a nice "Fancy / High Class yet Homey / Cozy" feel to it. Without tasting the food, you already get a feel of the quality you should be expecting. They don't have any fancy menus, instead, they chalk up the daily menu on small blackboard and bring it to your table. Yup, thats right, DAILY menu. Epiphany spices things up with a different menu for each day of the week! If you have a favorite, you can always ask them to cook it up for you if it isn't on the menu (if the ingredients are available and all). We went there on a friday and this is what they had.

Friday Menu

Heres some snapshots of the food we had. Ordered EVERYTHING on the menu, worth every peso!

Tea Smoked Squid: A great Appetizer

Tuna Ceviche: The Fancy "Kilawin" (raw fish!)

Seared Tuna: Nice Texture on the outside, awesome Tuna taste on the inside!

Stuffed Roast Chicken with the Best Potatoes I've ever tasted
Pork Trotter, This ain't your Mom's Crispy Tadyang.

Nice and RAW Beef Tenderloin

OVALTINE Kulfi
Though i love all the dishes, the dessert was my favorite. Who would have thought OVALTINE would make such a great dessert! Best Dish of the night. To top it all off, we had some foreign beers, they have a small yet varied selection.

Epiphany is a great find, restaurants like these don't pop up just anywhere. If you wanna try this place out here's how to get there:

View Epiphany Restaurant in a larger map

If Epiphany plays its cards right. they could be the next Uno. I'll come back here again (I'm excited about tasting another day;s menu!). In the mean time, why don't you visit Epiphany and tell us about the menu they served you. Heres their Facebook Page if you want to know more.

Who knows, maybe after a meal here, you'll have an Epiphany of your own!

All you can eat Sushi! SAKAE na!

Conveyor belt of Gluttony
Have you ever been so hungry that you wanted a constant stream of food to enter your stomach? "Want" no more! The Best conveyor belt sushi is in SM NORTH EDSA annex!

Sakae Sushi
What makes this place different from all the other conveyor belt sushi places?

Its not the Sushi... (though they have quite a selection)

Or the regular prices...

Best Deal EVARRz!
its the ALL DAY SUSHI BUFFET! Free flowing fresh quality sushi at the most amazing price ever! And not just Sushi ! theres tofu, cooked fish dishes and TEMPURA! (tempura has always been a pinoy favorite) If you compare the regular pricing to the Buffet Pricing... the value just blows my mind! Each plate has 2-6 pieces, depending on the type. If you eat anything like me, sobrang sulit talaga! It comes with bottomless tea (hot or cold) and a bowl of Miso soup, you can't go wrong with a deal like this!
Tabemashou!
There were more plates, but the waitress cleaned it up already
I think i gained 10 lbs from the carb overload, but that was the best carb to peso ratio meal I've ever had! I have no idea how long they'll keep this offer alive, or how long Sakae will avoid bankruptcy so an offer like this is fleeting at the most... Go on over to SM North Edsa now and try this experience for yourself!

Flapjacks Whipped Butter Goodness

Two waffles are better than one!
I ate at FlapJacks recently to get me some "good breakfast" for a change... Got me an omelet for my main course and the best waffles I've ever had for dessert! Its not the choco chips or the choco syrup that got me, nor was it the waffles... it was the BUTTER!

When i was younger, we used to get waffles at Pancake House all the time... they had butter that looked like it was scooped by a mini ice cream scooper. Its called whipped butter (as i have recently learned). I used to  take extra effort to spread it into every square of my waffle, I didn't put any maple syrup, just the waffles and butter. And like they said in the Bible "It was good"

Leave no Square unfilled!
But at FlapJacks, the whipped butter was so smooth and airy I thought it was whipped cream! There was just the right amount fluff and buttery sweetness to make that Waffle taste like heaven. Waffles + Butter, that was all I needed to have for breakfast. I would've eaten more, but that would be like suicide! Oh how I wish my arteries would never clog and my stomach never bloat.

Hands down, best whipped butter in town!

Chill time with KFC Chili Lime

Not your ordinary KFC
Another KFC treat, KFC Chili Lime is another "flavor" of the famous fried chicken chain (the others being Original and Hot&Spicy, but you knew that already). This one didn't get as much attention as the Double Down and it isn't as "innovative", but its still worth a try.
It looks like a cross between the original (which is not so crispy looking) and the hot & spicy (which is super crispy looking), other than that, looks just what a KFC chicken should look like.

As for the taste... Its like the Hot and Spicy, with out the Hot part. Its just spicy, gets mo ba? Spicy with a kick of "lime" that could pass as calamansi. It pretty good actually, its something different, and you should try it WITHOUT KFC's wonderful gravy. I know the gravy kicks ass (i drink it sometimes, or inuulam ko siya) but it covers the spicy lime/calamansi flavor. If you can't live without the gravy, top it on your rice at least. The Chili Lime is something you have to experience in all its "purity"!

KFC's Double Down Syndrome

Double Down with the Sickness!
I first saw the dreaded double down way back in 2009. Saw it here at "This is why you're fat". I've always wondered when crazy stuff like this would get to the here. Lo and Behold the Double Down has touched down on Philippine shores!

I tried it, and i loved it! but its a bit too small, for me lang ah, for me. 100 pesos for 4-5 bites... but those are very good bites! For the uneducated, a double down is two KFC Original Style chicken tenders with mayo, cheese AND BACON in between. Some say its like one of those kind of things you eat on a no carb diet, others say its one of the deadliest things on earth! I won't go into the health issue, (health always seemed more subjective to me than scientifically objective) I'd rather talk about the experience.

A wolf in sheep's clothing
As i said, its a too small for 100 pesos, but they taste great! Everyone's favorite fried chicken recipe with cheese, mayo AND BACON. Serving Size aside, whats not to like?

But, just like any great thing, consume these in moderation. Its a tad "too rich", as they say.

It's nice to see the Philippines catching up with "funner" foods from the west, and i think ill grab myself another one of these next week (writing this blog post just sparked a craving!)

Now if only McDo can counter with a Mc Gang Bang...

Uncle John's Chicken PROMO ALERT!

ZOMG
If you're a Ministop guy like me, you know Uncle John's Chicken. And, if you're anything more like me, you LOVE Uncle John's chicken. When i saw that they were selling their single piece meal at only 55 pesos, (from 65) i just had to get me some and post it here!

For those that haven't tried, Uncle John's Chicken is somewhat like a Jollibee Chicken Joy but not exactly. Its not a Chicken McDo, but could pass a second cousin... Its along that kind of Chicken, and I like it! Not as much as Chicken Joy, but its a nice alternative. And the gravy has that slight peppery kick too!

No Frills
I think the name "Uncle John's" came from John Gokongwei,  since Ministop and a bunch of other companies are owned by the family. It kind of fits in a nice way, I wonder if he knows there a chicken meal named after him...

If you haven't tried out Uncle John's, now's the time! and if you're a fan, give yourself an early Christmas gift and head on over to your nearest Ministop now!

a good meal under 60 pesos! 'san ka pa!

Twistix! Potato Evolution!

I was never a fan of the froyo trend... yeah, froyo is great and all, but since there are so many stores opening up, it all comes down to location. They're all the same to me. Theres no excitement, you what I mean?

Then there are players like this:

Twisty Potatoes! whats not to love?
I'm sure you've been seeing these pop up around the place. Its a nice change from the regular old potato corner. They sell ENTIRE POTATOES cut into ONE neat SPIRAL of CHIPS! let me just show you

thats right, one potato chip spiral on a stick
Its like eating BBQ on a stick, except its flavored potato chips! the one pictured here is the "large" one. Just so you have an idea, here are the sizes and flavors

just like buying French fries!

Pizza flavor? YEY!
Yeah, its a bit pricey, but if you think about it, its like buying fries from Potato Corner. You can even ask them to put more than one flavor. I had them put Pizza on one end and Sour Cream on the other, it was fun alternating flavors. And its a big potato!

As for the taste, its just your basic powdered flavors but they really go great on those crispy chips! and the twisty-ness of it all just adds to the experience!

They make it right in front of you too! they just cut up the potato with a machine, deep fry then pour on the flavor!

In goes the Potato

Out comes the Twistix!

Stretch it out, deep fry and add the flavor!

EAT

But if you think about it some more... Why buy this instead of a bag of flavored potato chips? lets see what i can list down

1. Chips on a Stick! - its a fun way to eat your potato chips! all you need is one hand
2. Crizzzpy - its fresh from the deep fryer, its as crispy as it can get
3. Cool factor - its an entire potato turned into a spiral! you don't see that everyday!

I don't think this will ever replace chips (those will always be cheaper), but its something nice to try every now and then if you don't mind deep fried food. It's fad though, thats for sure, and you should try it while its still uso ! We had to take a number and wait in line to get some!
18 lol
Its a fad that may not out live the Froyo fad, but its something I'd choose over froyo any day! Try one, there probably one in a mall near you!

Top That!

I'm sure you've seen this ad around the Metro. People have only 2 reactions to it...

1. OMG YUCK thats so kadiri
2. PAREh! sarap niyan ah!

Most of the time its the first, it may look like something from http://www.thisiswhyyourefat.com/ ... For me however, I saw the one of the greatest things to happen to Pizza since stuffed crust!

Just like in the Ad

The Ads do not lie! It looks just as advertised! One disappointment though, SIZE. This pizza was small! "Family" ?? I ate half of this pizza and you call it "family" size? all at 499 (i think)? Oh well, we (I) live in the Philippines so this is what you get. But you know what they say, Size isn't everything.

I only tried the Buffalo Wings and Onion Rings Pizza, (now that's a flavor!), the meat ball and fries flavor didn't seem as appealing. Just so you know, those aren't exactly buffalo wings, they're actually buffalo chicken tenders. Imagine eating a pizza with bones!

The pizza didn't have any tomato sauce, just the stuff you see in the picture. I think that was a smart move, the rich cheese really carried the buffalo flavor very well, very complimentary! the tomato sauce would work better with the meatball flavor. Here's a tip: though the onion ring tower is really awesome, its best to spread the rings over the whole pizza for best combo in taste.

added some fries for the extra combo power!

All in all, this is great idea! I really encourage everyone to try it out! you accepted stuffed crust, why not this? its not as radical as you think, if you spread the onion rings/fries, it looks just like a normal pizza BUT with crazy new toppings! And new toppings are always a good thing. Like eggs! i love pizza with egg toppings!

Vertical Flavor
Greenwich is on to something here, hopefully, if these flavors sell well, they'll come up with more!

Tara na! give it a shot! you won't regret it!

Now if only this also came with stuffed crust... hmm

Gobblin' Goblin Pie

A friend gave me this cake for my birthday, and it is a deadly cake indeed!
BOO!
I love it when food places do seasonal foods in their menus, and for a place like Bananapple it's a sure winner! (i'm excited for their next creation! CHRISTMAS CAKE please!)

Let me introduce to you the "GOBBLIN' GOBLIN PIE"! and when i tell you what's in this baby, you'll wanna gobble it up too!

LOL at the Pun

Its kinda like this... Its Chocolate Mousse on the top half, Cheesecake on the bottom, chocolate cake/cookie for the crust AND (here's the killer) its EMBEDDED with SNICKERS and MALTESERS! its the sweetest thing ever!

Define Fatness
Seriously, who ever invented this is a GENIUS! Now this is how cakes are made! the next evolution of the Graham Pie Crust and the Oreo Cheese Cake, the Gobblin' Goblin Pie! Banapple should keep this up, it'll more than make up for the traffic they cause in katipunan *JOKE!*

If only the Gobblin' Goblin Pie was Green like a "real" Goblin... That would really seal the deal! (Thats a tip for ya Banappple! maybe next year?)

Shame though, it looks like its only staying for this Halloween... Stuff like this should be available the whole year round!  (Good thing i still have some left over!)
